[1302] πρὸς with dat., after a verb of throwing or falling, is warranted by epic usage: Hom. Od. 5.415 “μήπως μ᾽ ἐκβαίνοντα βάλῃ λίθακι ποτὶ πέτρῃ ι κῦμα μέγ᾽ ἅρπαξαν”: Hom. Il. 20.420 “λιαζόμενον προτὶ γαίῃ,” sinking to earth. Soph. Aj. 95 “πρὸς ... στρατῷ,” 97 πρὸς Ἀτρείδαισιν are different, since no motion is strictly implied. Here the conjecture ἐπὶ is metrically admissible （ Aesch. Ag. 66 “κάμακος θήσων Δαναοῖσι,” Aesch. Pers. 48 “φοβερὰν ὄψιν προσιδέσθαι）,” but needless.
